Part 1
Booking a Dumpster
How far in advance do I need to book?
For Norfolk and its neighborhoods, calling before early afternoon often gets you same-day delivery. Southside cities like Virginia Beach and Chesapeake are usually same-day or next-day, and Peninsula cities across the bridge-tunnel are typically next-day. Booking a day or two ahead gives you the most flexibility on delivery windows.
What information do you need to give me a quote?
Your address, the type of project (cleanout, roofing tear-off, construction debris, yard waste, etc.), an estimate of volume, and where on your property the container will sit. That's usually enough for a flat quote over the phone.
How long can I keep the dumpster?
Standard rental periods run about 7 to 10 days for most residential jobs, with extensions available if a project runs long. Tell us your timeline when you book so it's built into the quote instead of tacked on as a surprise fee later.
Can I change my delivery date after booking?
Yes, as long as you give us a reasonable heads-up. Call the yard directly and we'll move your slot if the schedule allows it — this comes up often with weather delays and military moving timelines.
Part 2
Pricing and Payment
How much does a dumpster rental cost in Norfolk?
Pricing in this market generally runs about $250 to $800 depending on container size, weight, and rental length — that's a general market range, not a quote for your specific job. We give you a flat number up front once we know your size and project type.
Is the price you quote the final price?
Yes, assuming the load matches what you described when booking. If a container comes back significantly heavier than expected, or loaded with prohibited material, we'll explain the added cost before it hits your invoice, not after.
What's included in the flat price?
Delivery, pickup, a set rental period, and a set weight allowance based on container size. Overage weight, extended rental days, and prohibited materials are the main things that can add to a quote.
Do you charge extra for driveway placement?
No. Careful, driveway-aware placement — including protective boards under the container — is part of every delivery, not an upsell.
Part 3
Permits and Placement
Do I need a permit to put a dumpster in my driveway?
No permit is needed if the container sits entirely on your own driveway or private property. If it needs to sit on the street or a public right-of-way, the City of Norfolk (or the relevant neighboring city) requires a permit, which we can help you understand before delivery day.
What if I don't have a driveway or the dumpster has to go on the street?
Tell us that when you book. Street placement generally requires a permit from the City of Norfolk or the applicable city, and there are often rules about reflective markers or lighting on the container overnight. We'll walk you through what your specific city requires.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
Not if it's placed correctly. We use protective boards under the container's rails on asphalt, pavers, and aging concrete, and we ask about slope and surface condition before delivery so the truck operator knows what to expect.
Part 4
Service Area — Southside and Peninsula
What areas do you serve?
Norfolk and its neighborhoods (Ghent, Larchmont, Colonial Place, Park Place, Berkley, Ocean View, Lafayette-Winona, and Willoughby), the Southside cities of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Portsmouth, and the Peninsula cities of Hampton, Newport News, and Poquoson.
What's the difference between same-day and next-day service?
Norfolk itself and its neighborhoods are close enough to our W Little Creek Rd yard for same-day delivery on most weekdays. Southside cities are same-day or next-day depending on the day's route load. Peninsula cities require crossing the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel or the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, so we schedule those next-day to avoid bridge-tunnel traffic breaking a same-day promise.
What is the edge of your service area?
Our published coverage runs from Norfolk and its own neighborhoods through the Southside cities of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Portsmouth, and the Peninsula cities of Hampton, Newport News, and Poquoson. If your address is close to that footprint but not listed, call and ask — we will tell you honestly whether we can reach you.
Do you serve flood-prone neighborhoods like Ocean View and Willoughby?
Yes, regularly. We watch tide conditions for low-lying Norfolk waterfront neighborhoods and plan delivery timing around them, since ordinary high tides can flood streets there without any storm involved.
Part 5
Military PCS Moves
Do you work with military families on PCS orders?
Regularly. Naval Station Norfolk and Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story are both minutes from our yard, and a large share of the households we serve are moving on a fixed government timeline rather than a flexible one.
How far ahead should I book a dumpster for a PCS move?
As soon as you know your report date. PCS timelines are fixed by orders, not negotiable like a typical move, so booking your dumpster early — even a couple weeks out — protects your spot during the summer peak moving season when demand across the area spikes.
Can you deliver to base housing or nearby off-base neighborhoods?
We deliver to off-base residential addresses throughout Norfolk and the surrounding service area, including neighborhoods near Naval Station Norfolk and JEB Little Creek-Fort Story such as Willoughby and Ocean View. Base housing access rules vary, so check with base housing before booking a delivery on-post.
What size dumpster do most PCS cleanouts need?
Most PCS-timeline cleanouts of a house or townhome fall in the 15 to 20 yard range, but it depends on how much you're getting rid of versus shipping. Tell us your move timeline and roughly how much is staying behind, and we'll size it so you're not paying for space you don't use.
